Time is arguably one of our most valuable assets. After all, many of us find our way into entrepreneurship to allow us to do things on our own time. Now of course, we learn quickly that attaining that time freedom takes work, a lot of work — but we also know that it’s worth it. And so, finding ways to spend our time more effectively is always a good business move. That’s why this post isn’t so much about creating new content but instead, about learning how to repurpose your existing content.

This does not by any means, mean cutting corners either (that ugly copy and paste method need not apply!)

It does however mean that learning a few amazing ways to be efficient and mindful of how we spend our time is the focus.

TIME SAVING TIPS to repurpose existing content

Over the course of your entrepreneurial career, you have likely dedicated (or we hope you have) hours to content creation and content marketing. In many ways, content can be a set it and forget it model when it’s distributed right.

On social media this might mean revising it from time to time, a quick comment or reply can get it back circulating again for example.

But what about that content that is a little bit more dated? What could possibly be time saving when you’re digging in the crates!?

Well, that’s where learning how to repurpose your existing content effectively comes in.

First and foremost, 90% of the content you create should be evergreen.

This is the type of content that stays relevant for months even years. So, think back to last year when you were pumping out some solid content (adjust the time to reflect your experience of course). Wouldn’t it be amazing to use again? Especially if it got some great traction and engagement before? Well, of course it would be!

Let’s walk you through these time saving tips in giving that older content new life for a brand new content calendar to unfold almost effortlessly!

REPURPOSE YOUR EXISTING CONTENT SUPER FAST

Take a moment and have a look into your notes, Facebook memories, an old blog, stories archive or LinkedIn article. Make sure it’s at least 3+ months old to your audience.

  1. Read it over and ask yourself; is this still relevant? Is this still valuable?
  2. Is this a topic worth revisiting?
  3. Does the content still align with my beliefs? Vision? Goals? Brand?
  4. Will my audience benefit from potentially revisiting this topic?

If all things match up, you’re good to go!

Now of course you don’t want to merely copy and paste that previous content. You want to freshen it up a little — it’s possible you can shed some new insight or perspective even. Perhaps there is something that has changed drastically since you first posted — weigh in on that!

The bulk of it will stay the same and that’s the evergreen beauty.

Once you’ve spiced things up in the text part of this content what more could you do?

If there is an image attached to it – 99% of the time, use a new one. Recycling pictures on the same written content is in some ways ‘too obvious’. And, if your audience crosses over on different mediums, an older picture will almost always ‘give it away’.

Doing a minor tweak like switching an image, brings a whole new light (and life) to the content from that, previously shared.

And, if you chose not to use an image previously — consider adding one now or vis versa. This is incredibly time saving for you and allows you to continue to push out quality, valuable content to your audiences.

GRAB THAT LONGER CONTENT AND SPLICE AWAY!

Think about your posts that are anywhere from 4+ paragraphs and on. You could consider splicing that content into 4 different ones (or more). Often, these one liners or paragraphs can help jog your creative content brain and help you create new stuff with a simple nudge from that existing (older) content.

One of our best time saving tips is always generating new content from existing published content. Seriously, learning how to repurpose existing content is a game changer! Additionally, LinkedIn or blog posts are great spots for longer posts that you can slice and dice on other platforms like; Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.

Try to keep these time saving tips in mind when creating new content as well. You want to keep that funnel filled with fresh stuff all the time that you can go back and borrow when you’re in need!
